These are the details required of an information society service established in the European Union under Article 5 of Directive 2000/31/EC, as implemented in Belgian law in Book XII of the Code of Economic Law.
Using the site means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.
2. What GiftCoves is, and is not
GiftCoves is a product and brand discovery service. We collect product information from retailers and affiliate networks and present it so that products and the brands behind them can be explored, alongside links to the shops that sell them.
We are not a shop and we are not a marketplace. We hold no stock, we take no payment, no seller offers anything through us, and we are not a party to any purchase you make. When you follow a link and buy something, the contract is between you and that retailer, under their terms and their prices.
This has a practical consequence worth stating plainly. Consumer rights that arise from a sale, such as the right of withdrawal under Directive 2011/83/EU, the legal guarantee of conformity, and delivery obligations, are owed to you by the retailer and not by us. We cannot cancel an order, chase a delivery, or refund anything, because we never received your money and hold no record of your order.
3. How results are ranked
EU law requires a service like ours to explain the main parameters that determine how it ranks what you see, and their relative importance. Ours, in order of weight:
- How well a product matches what you asked for. Text relevance against the title, brand and category, with fuzzy matching so a typo still finds things.
- Whether it can actually be bought. In-stock offers rank above unavailable ones. An unbuyable price is not an offer.
- Price, when you choose to sort by it, and as the tiebreaker between the shops listing the same product.
- How many shops list it, which raises a product slightly, because something several shops carry is something you are more likely to be able to get.
- Editorial judgement, in the Coves and the Daily Cove only. Those are written selections, chosen for being interesting.
Discovery surfaces such as "surprise me" deliberately invert the usual order and rank away from popularity, toward products that are unusual for their category. That is the purpose of those pages rather than an accident of the ranking.
No retailer pays for placement, position, or inclusion. Commission rates play no part in ranking, in which shop is listed first, or in what appears in a Cove. If that ever changes, this section changes with it and the change will be marked.
4. Product information, prices and availability
We work hard on accuracy and cannot guarantee it.
Product details, prices and stock come from retailer feeds refreshed twice a day, and from live queries made while you search. Between our reading a price and your reaching the shop, it can change. Feeds contain errors. Promotions end.
The retailer's own page is authoritative. Check the price there before you buy. A price shown here is an invitation to look, never an offer capable of acceptance, and nothing on this site obliges any retailer to sell at the price shown.
What a discount badge means here
Where we mark something as reduced, that is measured against our own median price for that product over the previous 30 days, calculated from what the shops we track have actually charged. We do not use a retailer's crossed-out "was" price.
We are not the seller, so we are not the trader announcing a price reduction for the purposes of Article 6a of Directive 98/6/EC. A retailer's own obligation to state its prior lowest price is theirs and is discharged on their site. Our badge is our own reading of what a product has cost recently, honestly made, and it is not a promise about what any other shop charges.
5. Affiliate relationships
We earn commission when you buy through our links. It does not change your price and, as section 3 says, it does not affect ranking.
Where a retailer's programme requires it, outbound links to that retailer are direct rather than passing through our redirector.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
6. Using the site
You may use GiftCoves to discover products and brands. You may not:
- scrape, crawl or bulk-copy the catalogue, or use automated means to extract data beyond ordinary browsing;
- resell, republish or redistribute our content, including our editorial text and our product data;
- interfere with the site, attempt to gain unauthorised access, or probe its security;
- use it in a way that breaks the law or infringes anyone's rights.
We may restrict or withdraw access where any of this happens.
7. Accounts and lists
An account is free and optional. You are responsible for what happens under it. Since sign-in is by emailed link, that responsibility comes down in practice to keeping your email account secure.
Lists you build are yours. If you share a list, anyone with the link can see it and claim items on it. A share link is unguessable but it is not a password, so share it accordingly.
If you record details about another person on a list, you are the one deciding to do that and you are responsible for having a proper basis for it under data protection law. Keep it to what you need.
We may remove content that is unlawful or abusive, and may close an account that is used to break these terms.
8. The daily email
Subscribing is opt-in and confirmed by clicking a link we send, so nothing reaches an address that has not asked for it. Every message has a one-click unsubscribe that works permanently.
The content is editorial. Products mentioned in it are chosen by us, are not paid placements, and are subject to the same accuracy limits as the rest of the site.
9. Intellectual property
The design, the software, the editorial text and the way the catalogue is arranged belong to us or our licensors.
Product names, descriptions, images, logos and trade marks belong to their respective owners and appear here to identify the products and brands shown, which is permitted for that purpose. Nothing on this site claims any right in them, and their appearance implies no endorsement in either direction.
If you believe something here infringes your rights, write to hello@giftcoves.com with enough detail to identify it and we will look at it promptly.
10. Third-party sites
Outbound links go to sites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, their terms, their prices or their handling of your data. Following a link means leaving GiftCoves.
11. Availability
We do not promise the site will be available uninterrupted. It may be down for maintenance, and features may be changed or withdrawn.
12. Liability
We provide the site with reasonable care but without warranty that the information on it is complete, accurate or current. Section 4 explains why that limitation is real rather than boilerplate.
To the extent the law permits, we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on information here, from a purchase made at another retailer, or from the site being unavailable.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and any mandatory consumer rights you have under Belgian or EU law.
13. Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top changes with them, and continuing to use the site after that means accepting the new version. Where a change materially affects registered users, we will say so by email.
14. Law, disputes and complaints
These terms are governed by Belgian law. Disputes go to the courts having jurisdiction at our registered office. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, nor of your right to bring proceedings there.
If you are a consumer in Belgium and we cannot resolve a complaint between us, you can approach the Consumer Mediation Service (Consumentenombudsdienst / Service de médiation pour le consommateur), North Gate II, Koning Albert II-laan 8 box 1, 1000 Brussels, consumentenombudsdienst.be.
The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform ceased operating on 20 July 2025, so there is no ODR link here. Some sites still show one; it no longer goes anywhere.
Before any of that, hello@giftcoves.com is the fastest route, and we would rather hear a complaint than not.
